venice coat of armsLocated on the lagoon of the same name, Venice is the main city of Venezia and of Eastern northern Italy, its counts approximately 271.000 inhabitants.
With 19 million visitors per year (2006) it is the city most visited in Italy, more than Rome (18 million) and Florence (13 million).
The tourism affluence is rather constant, with points during the Carnival, and between May and October.
The whole city and the Lagoon were declared in 1979 inheritance of the humanity of UNESCO.

The historical city was always isolated from the ground, until 1841 when the works for the construction of the railway bridge started. To join it in the car, it was necessary to await 1933, when Mussolini inaugurated the Bridge of Freedom, length 4 km, which connect Mestre to Piazza Roma.
